The sports car business of the ace German auto giant, Porsche has been bought by the Volkswagen after the former succumbed and agreed to be a part of the latter, following a lot of negotiations and dealings. With this, the days as an independent automotive manufacturer of the Stuttgart based car maker came to an end.

According to a company statement from Volkswagen Group, starting August 1, 2012 Porsche will become a fully owned subsidiary of the group. Europe's largest car maker, VW already owns premium auto brands like Audi, Volkswagen, Seat, Bugatti, Bentley and truck makers like MAN and Scania. As of now, both the car makers have announced that they are going to primarily focus on the expansion of their existing portfolio. For any car lover, who has a penchant for the models from these two car makers, this news comes as a fresh source of fantasies.

The next chapter following the merger is to make Porsche a volume pulling company fro the parent brand. Moving ahead from its sports car making days, Porsche is not only planning to expand its existing portfolio comprising Porsche 911, Cayenne and Boxster, among others but is also working on a small sedan, which will take on the likes of Mercedes-Benz E-Class and CLS Coupe.

According to the speculations, the sports car maker is gearing up to launch a mini variant of its well-acclaimed Panamera sedan, which has been codenamed as Pajun. BMW 5-Series is also expected to be on the hit list of the speculated leaner model by Porsche. Another car expected to be break its covers is the Project 960', which happens to be a super car that can seat two adults and has a mid-size engine. This unit, which is built to deliver 600 bhp of maximum power, comes with a twin-turbocharged V-powertrain with eight-cylinder. Unlike the puny BMW 5-series on the hit list of Pajun, the 'Project 960' will target the high profile brands like the Ferrari and the Lamborghini.

On the other hand, the maker of powerful 911 Turbo hinted that it will not introduce an affordable substitute of its Boxster as of now. Another speculation doing the round is that the Project 551 may also witness the daylight later than anticipated. In India, Porsche already channels its Boxster, Cayenne, Cayman, Panamera and the legendary 911. The range of the car maker in India starts from Rs. 47 lacs and goes as far as Rs. 2 crore and above.
