Volvo, the Sweden based luxury car maker, has unveiled an advanced Start-Stop technology that will be coupled with its 2.0L D3 diesel engine.  The new Start-Stop technology will not only enhance the fuel economy of the car but will also be reducing its carbon emission level.  The new technology has been launched in a bid to provide a better performing engine for Volvo cars along with higher fuel economy and lower emission levels.

The 2.0L D3 diesel engine unit is a downsized version of the powerful 2.4 liter D5 diesel engine. With reducing the size of this engine, the maximum power of the D3 engine has been reduced by 40 bhp to 162 bhp.  On the other hand, the peak torque of the car has been reduced by 20 Nm to 400 Nm.

With the smaller engine and newer technology, it is expected that the company will utilize this engine in its India portfolio models like Volvo S60 and S80. The smaller engine is likely to enable the company to decrease the price of these models to competitive level s, where these cars will be able to compete more promptly with the same segment cars of BMW, Mercedes Benz and Audi. The company is claiming that with the new more fuel efficient engine and new Start-Stop technology, Volvo S60 will be able to offer a segment topping mileage of 19 kmpl.

At present, Volvo imports all of its portfolio models as completely built units in the Indian market.
