Volvo has announced that the bookings for their upcoming premium sedan, the S90, are open in India now. The Swedish carmaker will soon launch the sedan in India.

This is the 2017 iteration of the S90, which made its world premiere at the 2016 Detroit Motor Show. The front gets the prominent 'Thor’s Hammer' shaped headlamps and Iron Mark front grille, the two styling traits borrowed from the second-gen XC90. Taking further inspiration from the bigger SUV is the concave grille and the overall design language of the new sedan.

The S90's interior features the latest tech from the brand. This includes the semi-autonomous drive Pilot Assist and the IntelliSafe Assist as standard equipment. The latter tech includes Adaptive Cruise Control and Distance Alert. Another highlight is the animal detection feature, which is claimed to offer "intuitive warning and brake support".

There are plenty of engine options for the Volvo S90. There is a 2.0-litre turbodiesel mill in two states of tune for the entry-level variants. The motor powering the D4 variant churns out 187bhp of power and 400Nm of torque, while the one in the D5 produces 231bhp of power and 480Nm of torque. There is another T6 variant that comes powered by a supercharged and turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine that belts out 315bhp of power and 400Nm of torque. The top-of-the-line S90 is the T8 trim (401bhp), which shares its plug-in hybrid with the XC90.

Tom von Bonsdorff, Managing Director, Volvo Auto India said, “The S90 is one of the most awaited launch from Volvo’s portfolio this year. It’s got everything you would expect a luxurious sedan to have the look, the feel and the design without any compromise on the comfort! The S90 comes with a sub 2.0-litre diesel engine and we are confident that it will change the dynamics of the segment in India. We are opening the pre-bookings for our patrons who would like to be the early ones to own the S90.”

The Volvo S90 will become the manufacturer's flagship model when launched in India soon. It will then compete with the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and the BMW 5-Series.
