The Volvo S60 Cross Country has finally made its debut in the Indian market for Rs 38.9 lakh (Ex-showroom Mumbai). At the launch event Tom von Bonsdorff, Managing Director, Volvo Auto India said “Nothing could be more appropriate for India than a Cross Country Sedan, yes the wait is finally over. Our customers want their cars to glide through the rough roads but had to compromise on the rear seat comfort of a sedan. Our latest launch, S60 Cross Country addresses both these in a unique blend of sporty ruggedness. We have included all the capability driven features standard offering a unique ‘All Weather, All Road’ experience.”

The vehicle boasts of five impressive qualities:

Standard All-Wheel Drive (AWD): The Volvo S60 Cross Country comes with standard All-Wheel Drive (AWD) diesel powertrain that generates about 187bhp of power and 420Nm torque. The fun aspect is not restricted to this, the AWD system in the vehicle comes with DSTC system (Dynamic Stability and Traction Control and Advanced Stability Control) that offers an overall well balanced drive feel. This feature is indeed vital given the fact that the company claims that the vehicle is capable of heading out on mild off-road drives.

Ground Clearance: The Volvo S60 Cross Country clearly offers the feel of an SUV while driving like a sedan. With massive 201mm of ground clearance, the vehicle can indeed tackle the unexpected bumps and uneven Indian roads comfortably. The Cross Country–Sedan (as the company terms it) with such impressive ground clearance offers you an opportunity to head out for a drive on occasional off-road stretches.

Price: The Volvo S60 Cross Country is not exactly an easy-on-pocket sedan, but given the fact that the vehicle is introduced in India as an import unit and comes loaded with tons of safety and convenience features, the Rs 38.9 lakh (Ex-showroom Mumbai) pricing is not bad at all. Moreover, the car has no direct competitor in its segment.

Safety and Features: The Volvo S60 Cross Country ranks impressively in this aspect. The vehicle gets standard safety features like Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD), Electronic Brake Assistance (EBA), Hill Descent Control which automatically keeps the car at a constant speed while driving downhill, off road, or in deeper water and Hill Start Assist. Moreover, it also gets unique City Safety feature which has laser assisted automatic braking that enables braking from 50kmph. Some of the other features it comes with are - Cruise Control, Park Assist Camera, Park Assist Front & Rear, Hill Descent Control, Hill Start Assist, Height/Length Adjustable Steering Wheel, Speed Sensitive Power Steering, Rain Sensor, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, TFT Instrumentation cluster and Navigation. As for locking and security it comes with Basic Alarm with Interior Movement Sensor (IMS), Personal Car Communicator with Keyless Drive, Home Safe Lighting, Power Child Lock, Rear Doors, Private Locking, Trunk Global Open/Close Doors + Sunroof, Auto Up/Down Power Windows, All Doors and Water Repellent Front Side Windows.

Unique Selling Proposition: The Volvo S60 Cross Country is indeed unique in its segment in every aspect. Loaded with front sensors that automatically control the vehicle speed to prevent collision or impressive ground clearance numbers, the vehicle has been designed to tackle the unknown fearlessly while still offering the comfort of a sedan. The vehicle boasts of Cleanzone interior feature that restricts particles PM 2.5 and PM10, odours and pollen from entering the cabin. Additionally, it gets IR reflective wind screen, electrically heated rear window and electronic climate control feature.
