Volvo’s Polestar division will no longer be recognized as a Volvo brand. The company has got a new identity and will be set up as a different company under the Volvo Group.

The primary focus for this new company will be development and sales of high-end electric cars. Along with this, Polestar will also develop electric versions of Volvo cars. The company is planning to take on the likes of Tesla with its future EVs. In order to drive the development of the brand, Volvo Cars also announced that Thomas Ingenlath, senior vice president design at Volvo, will assume the position of CEO at Polestar.

“Thomas heading up the Polestar organisation shows our commitment to establishing a truly differentiated stand-alone brand within the Volvo Car Group,” said Hakan Samuelsson, president and chief executive, Volvo Cars.
