Volvo recently unveiled their entry-level SUV, the XC40 at the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show. Now, its Indian counterpart has listed the car on the website hinting at its launch for the Indian market in the new year.

Volvo lists the XC40 on the Indian website

The XC40 uses Volvo's new ‘Compact Modular Architecture (CMA)', a platform that will be used for all ‘40' models in the future. This includes EVs too. The XC40 seems to be similarly sized to a Jeep Compass. However, the XC40's styling makes it look more futuristic, even if the SUV follows a similar design approach like its elder siblings.

Volvos are known for safety and this one too comes equipped with many such features. This includes obstruction detection with automatic emergency braking, an optional 360-degree Park Assist, Pilot Assist and Run-off Road Mitigation. The infotainment system in the cabin is a nine-inch Sensus Connect touchscreen with integrated speech recognition. Its tailgate is electrically-powered and can be actuated by placing your foot under the rear bumper.

Volvo India has not specified the powertrain options for the India-spec XC40. It was revealed in two engine options - a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol and a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel. The latter is what we are likely to get. This D4 diesel version produces 190bhp of power and 400Nm of torque. More information on this might be revealed soon.

Globally, Volvo plans to make the car available for booking online, while also backing it up by the brand's ‘Care By Volvo' plan. This plan is targeted for negotiation-free subscription services along with their purchase and lease options. The Volvo XC40 is expected to be the smallest and cheapest SUV from the brand. We can expect it to GO on sale in India via the CBU route. When launched, it will go up against the Audi Q3, BMW X1 and the Mercedes-Benz GLA.
