      Volvo Auto India wishes to sell 20,000 units annually in the next 5 years

      Volvo Auto India, the domestic arm of Swedish luxury automotive marque, has revealed intentions of adopting an aggressive strategy, besides improving its annual sales performance in the domestic market to 20,000 units within next five years. The announcement came through the company's Managing Director (MD), Tomas Ernberg in Bangalore on March 15, 2013.

      As per reports, Volvo Auto India recorded sales of 821 units during the 2012 calendar year, a sharp surge from the 320 units sold in year-ago period. Further, the company is targeting a growth of 35 per cent during ongoing 2013 year, by clocking sales of around 1,100 units. However, Ernberg expressed immense confidence of recording sales close to 1,500 units this year in the Indian luxury car market.

      Ernberg has confirmed that the company will refurbish its brand awareness campaigns and turn to effective marketing schemes in the country. Speaking on the same, he added, “We plan to continue investing in the brand and grow it in India market with effective marketing strategies.” Evidently, Volvo Auto was one of the first premium auto makers to arrive on Indian turf six years ago in 2007, before present market leaders like the German giants- BMW and Audi. Clearly the Swedish auto maker failed to capitalise on its advantage and is now looking to achieve the same success as other premium car makers.

      Interestingly, Volvo Auto emerged as the second largest premium car seller in the Hyderabad auto market during 2012 calendar year. Expressing his delight with the company's performance in Hyderabad, Ernberg was quoted as saying, “We want to copy-paste our success in Hyderabad in Bangalore.” Volvo Auto India has declared appointment of 'Martial Motors Private Limited' as its new dealership partner in Bangalore. As per Ernberg, the company is also going to appoint a dealer in Kolkata and a second dealer in Mumbai this year.
