Amid all the speculation, Volkswagen has launched its much awaited performance oriented sedan, Vento TSI in the Indian auto market. The car, which was in news since past month, carries an ex-showroom price tag of Rs. 9.99 lakh in Delhi. Earlier, the company disclosed all the detailed specifications of Vento TSI on its official website. It is worth mentioning that the latest entrant in the product portfolio of Volkswagen comes sans the GT badge as seen in previously launched Polo GT TSI model.

At the launch event, Arvind Saxena, Managing Director for Passenger Cars, said "With the new Vento TSI, Volkswagen takes the lead with producing cars that are high-tech, powerful and fuel-efficient. With a turbocharged petrol engine and 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox, the Vento TSI provides excellent performance and fuel economy. With its class-leading build quality and high levels of fit and finish, the Vento TSI will be the car of choice for discerning buyers."

In terms of appearance, Vento TSI looks similar to the standard version of Vento and the sole difference that can be easily spotted is the TSI badge. As far as the technicalities are concerned, Vento TSI gets a 1.2-litre petrol engine that has an ability to churn out a maximum power of 103 bhp at 5000 rpm alongside generating a maximum torque of 175 Nm at 1500-4100 rpm. This engine is paired to seven-speed dual-shift gearbox, which further transfers power to its rear wheels. As claimed by Volkswagen, its newly launched sedan gives away an exceptional mileage of 16 kmpl owing to the refined transmission mechanism.

According to industry experts, Volkswagen has learnt the art of correctly pricing its vehicles as the Vento TSI is just Rs. 18000 costlier than the automatic version of Vento. In spite of that, the German auto maker has not compromised on giving away additional features like Electronic Stability Program (ESP) and hill-hold assist, which are missing from the highline variant of Vento. Apart from these, the newly launched sedan comes along with dozen of other features that include Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), dual airbags, alloy wheels, steering mounted audio controls and rear parking sensors. At interiors, Vento TSI gets leather upholstery on steering wheel, gearshift knob and handbrake lever. Also to mention, the chrome surrounds present on the dashboard of Vento TSI looks very much alike to Polo GT TSI.

The latest offering of Volkswagen would be initially available in selected cities across India.

For luring customers, Volkswagen Vento TSI is offered with 6 years anti-perforation warranty. Also to mention the car is equipped with heat insulating glass for side and rear windows, frontal disc brakes, height adjustable headrests for front and rear side, speed sensitive electronic power steering, central locking system with remote control, speed sensing auto door lock and electrically adjustable outer rear view mirrors. As told by the company, Vento TSI is available in six different colours namely Candy White, Pepper Gray, Terra Beige, Shadow Blue, Reflex Silver and Deep Black.

It must be noted that Volkswagen recently discontinued the 1.6-litre petrol variant of Polo hatchback and introduced the Polo GT TSI. However, this case would not exist in Vento as the company plans to sell TSI and 1.6-litre petrol automatic and manual trims alongside. As seen by industry experts, the launch comes on the back of announcement made by the Indian wing of Volkswagen to discard the conventional engines in order to infuse turbocharged ones on all of its models. However, the company is yet to change the powertrains given on two of its models, which still run on naturally aspirated engines. Now with the addition of Vento TSI, the company is inching closer to its target.
