Volkswagen launched its Polo sedan model christened as VW Vento in India on July 6. The company announced its prices of the Vento yesterday as beginning with Rs. 6.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the Trendline manual transmission model powered by 1.6L petrol engine. Volkswagen has already started taking bookings for the car and will begin deliveries from September 06, 2010. Prices of other models are 1.6 Highline Petrol (manual): Rs 8.23 lakh, 1.6 Highline Petrol (automatic): Rs 9.21 lakh, 1.6 Trendline TDI (manual): Rs 7.99 lakh, 1.6 Highline TDI (manual): Rs 9.23 lakh.
The Vento is powered by two engine options: a 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 104 bhp@5250 rpm and 15.5 kgm@3800 rpm of torque; while the second is a 1.6-litre four-cylinder TDI diesel engine that produces 104 bhp@4400 rpm and 25.4 kgm@1500-2500 of torque. Automatic transmission will only be available in petrol variants. Thus two of the diesel variants will have only manual transmission.
Volkswagen already has six models in its product portfolio including Passat, Jetta, Polo, Touareg, Phaeton and Beetle. Volkswagen Vento is being manufactured at company’s Chakan plant near Pune.
