Volkswagen has launched the revamped variant of Vento sedan today in India in both petrol and diesel variants. The new Vento range is priced between Rs 7.44 lakh to Rs 10.94 lakh (ex-showroom price). While changes made to the petrol variant are confined to cosmetic upgrades, major mechanical tweak has been given to the diesel powered Vento.
Cosmetic changes made to the new Vento are to an extent similar to the ones seen on new Polo launched in India two months ago. Among the various modifications projector head lamps, alloy wheels sporting a new design and induction of a new body colour shade, ‘Toffee Brown’ sum up the external changes.
Inside the cabin also similar changes have been bestowed on new Vento as given to Polo facelift. A new flat-bottomed steering wheel, revamped instrument cluster with MID and silver inserts in the audio system area conclude changes made to the cabin.
On the mechanical front, as mentioned above petrol variant retains the previous engine set up while the diesel range now gets 1.5 litre TDI engine instead of the previous 1.6 litre TDI powertrain. The new 1.5 litre TDI engine also powers new Polo and will also be seen in new Rapid diesel slated to launch tomorrow. Outputting 105 PS at 4400 RPM and 250 Nm between 1500 to 2500 RPM, the 1.5 litre TDI motor is matched to the higher specification seven-speed dual clutch gearbox. Petrol variants continue to be powered with the same engine. A five-speed manual transmission is being offered as a standard option while on both petrol and diesel variants, but the 7-speed DSG automatic tranny is available only on the select high-end diesel variants.
