Volkswagen Tiguan will make its Indian debut tomorrow. The second-generation Tiguan was revealed at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show and was locally showcased at the 2016 Delhi Expo. Production of the Tiguan commenced in March at the carmaker’s Aurangabad facility.

The Tiguan wears the familiar VW’s SUV family face with two-slat grille, square-ish headlamps with DRLs, wraparound tail lights at the back, flared wheel arches with black cladding and roof rails which lend the SUV a sporty stance. The interior gets a black treatment with chrome bezel for the dashboard and the centre console. The cabin, in a typical Volkswagen fashion, is very premium and well laid out.

The Tiguan will be offered in two variants – Comfortline and Highline. The Comfortline will get standard features such as three-zone automatic air-conditioning with rear controls, electrically adjustable front seats with driver memory function, automatic headlamp and cruise control. On the other hand, the Highline spec gets bigger alloy wheels, push button start, panoramic sunroof and ambient lighting. The Tiguan will be powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder TDI engine from the recently launched A4 35TDI, mated to a seven-speed DSG transmission. A 2.0-litre gasoline option is also on the cards, but that will follow later.

The Tiguan is based on the versatile MQB platform, sharing it with the likes of Audi A4, Skoda Superb and Octavia, along with the upcoming VW Passat and the Skoda Kodiaq. When launched, it will enter into the segment dominated by the likes of Hyundai Tucson, Honda CR-V as well as the Hyundai Santa Fe. The Tiguan is an important vehicle for the German carmaker, and hence the pricing for it is crucial. The Tiguan is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 18 lakh to Rs 26 lakh.
