Volkswagen is now planning to bring a car, even smaller than its Polo, into the Indian market. VW official Kurt Rippholz, the Communications Head for VW India recently stated in a press meet, “Believe me, we will have something smaller than the Polo. We are working on it. First you have to conceptualise and then assess the market potential.” However, he also stated that nothing has been clarified so far. Earlier it was reported that Volkswagen had delayed its plans to introduce a smaller car in the Indian market owing to the lack of branding clarity for the model.

The new VW Up! Is expected to be priced around Rs. 3 lakh and will have multiple power trains. Autocar India reports that the VW Up! is expected to be sold with a tiny three-cylinder 1-litre TDI engine, 1.2-liter TDI (found in the Polo) and an entry-point 800cc petrol unit.

Apart from the launch of a new small car from Volkswagen, the company is also planning to introduce a new variant of the Polo in India. Rippholz stated that the company will begin production of the VW Vento from July, which is the new upcoming sedan model based on the Polo.
