      Volkswagen Tiguan showcased in Tokyo - India launch next year

      The 2016 Volkswagen Tiguan which was revealed at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, has now been showcased at the ongoing Tokyo Motor Show alongside the Tiguan GTE Concept. Set to rival the Ford Endeavour, Toyota Fortuner and Chevrolet Trailblazer, the Volkswagen’s compact SUV will make its way to the Indian market by the next year. Volkswagen Tiguan

      Based on the MQB platform, the Tiguan is bigger yet lighter than its predecessor. The compact SUV measures 4,485mm in length, 1,839mm in width and 1,633mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,682mm. It has load capacity up to 2,500kgs, and offers a boot space of 615-litres that can be increased by folding down rear seats. The interior of the Volkswagen’s new compact SUV looks identical to the Golf. The base variant comes with a five-inch monochrome touchscreen, while the higher trims get eight-inch display with navigation system, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Mirror Link and other features. 

      Safety features like seven airbags, automatic post-collision braking system, front assist with city emergency braking and pedestrian monitoring, lane assist will be offered as standard across all variants. Other noteworthy fitments include triple-zone automatic climate control, adaptive cruise control, panoramic sunroof, 360 degree area view and pre-crash proactive occupant protection. 

      For the European market, the Volkswagen Tiguan will be available with four TSI petrol and four diesel engines producing power between 123bhp to 237bhp. While the base variant will get front-wheel drive system, other variants will come with all-wheel drivetrain system either as standard or an option. These powertrains are Euro-6 compliant, and are claimed to be 24% more fuel efficient than the predecessor.
