Design highlights of the Tiguan include the two slat VW grille, flared wheel arches as well as the wrap around tail lamps that give the SUV its sporty stance. The cabin is standard VW premium fare and gets many familiar bits found across the VW family. The India spec car gets black interiors with chrome bezel for the dashboard and the centre console. It will be offered in two variants- Comfortline and Highline and in their global offerings these are mid-level and top-of-the-line trims for the SUV.

Standard features are expected to include climate control, touchscreen infotainment system, six airbags while the Highline model also gets bigger alloy wheels, push button start, panoramic sunroof and ambient lighting. The Tiguan will only be offered with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine which produced 147bhp. This engine will only be offered with a seven-speed DSG.

Volkswagen is locally assembling the Tiguan for the Indian market and is expected to price it in the range of Rs 18 lakh to Rs 26 lakh.  It will take on the likes of the Hyundai Tucson, Honda CR-V as well as the Hyundai Santa Fe. This will be a crucial vehicle for the German automaker in India as it will be the first of their big budget volumes model to be brought to India. It is expected to be followed by the Skoda Kodiaq a few months from now.
