      Volkswagen Sources Indian Suppliers for its Small Car

      Volkswagen is in talks with Indian suppliers and has also finalised some to supply auto components for its small car due to be launched in 2009-10. Volkwagen is planning to launch a small car shortly in India which would carry auto components from Indian suppliers.

      Auto suppliers in India have also confirmed that the German car maker is looking for suppliers in the country. Minda Industries has secured Rs 50 crore project already from VW to supply lamps for the small car to be launched in India and Russia. “We have got orders to supply in India and Russia,” said Mr Vivek Jindal, Executive Director, Minda Industries.

      According to Managing Director and CEO of Sona Koyo Steering Systems, Surinder Kapur, We are in discussions with Volkswagen for a series of models. Many of the European automobile companies are talking to vendors for using the Indian supply base for other markets from where they plan to launch similar models.”
      Volkswagen currently makes 6 million vehicles globally and shall be investing 600 million India. The company is emerging in strong fashion in emerging markets like Brazil, India and has entered Russia too.
