Volkswagen has showcased the India-bound Tiguan at the Beijing Motor Show. The much anticipated crossover model is now in its second generation and will be launched in India this fiscal as a locally assembled model.

The Tiguan is the first crossover model to make use of the flexible MQB platform. New from the ground up, the Tiguan is 60mm longer, 30mm wider and sits 33mm lower to the ground compared to the old one. The 2681mm wheelbase, too, is longer by 77mm for better cabin space.

Inside, the dashboard is now aligned towards the driver. That said, those familiar with VW cabins would feel at home because of the familiarity of switchgear and the overall layout of materials. Globally, the Tiguan will be offered with up to three new petrol engine options, with power outputs ranging from 125bhp to 180bhp and four new diesel engines ranging from 115bhp to 240bhp. Gearbox options, meanwhile, will include either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DSG.
