Volkswagen has commenced testing of their Polo hatchback with some changes to the exterior. This facelifted Polo was recently spied testing on the streets of Mumbai.

The updated Polo will get cosmetic changes similar to the updated Vento sedan exhibited at the 2016 Auto Expo. This includes new LED daytime running lights and new LED tail lamps. There is a possibility of VW equipping this hatch with projector headlamps as well. It is still uncertain if the cabin will be updated or not as the carmaker updated the interior just last month. This includes a touchscreen infotainment system with Mirror Link Connectivity and Phone Book and SMS viewer. Apart from this feature, the car also got rain sensing wipers and an auto dimming mirror, which then will be carried over to the refreshed Polo.

The engine line-up and transmission options from the current Polo are likely to continue. This includes a 1.2-litre three cylinder petrol mill and 1.5-litre four-cylinder diesel motor. The oil-burner might get a power bump with the help of a locally sourced larger turbocharger to make more power.

The current car is the fifth generation of the VW Polo that was last updated in 2014. This 2016 iteration of the Polo will just be a mid-life cycle refresh and not a next-generation model. Nevertheless, the new cosmetic changes will come as an update to the external appearance and add to the appeal of the car. If VW bumps up the power in the GT TDi to 110bhp, it will also come as a bonus for prospective buyers.
