Volkswagen's focus on standard safety feature strategies has now broadened. It will now introduce ABS (anti-lock braking system) as standard on all variants of the Polo and the Vento. The fresh stock of production of these cars will be offered with this safety feature as standard part of the package.
Volkswagen had started to offer dual airbags as a standard fitment across all their cars. However, ABS was missing in the base Trendline variants of the Polo and the Vento. Now like the Comfortline and Highline trims, even the base versions of the sedan and the hatchback will come equipped with ABS.
Volkswagen will be the second automaker after Toyota to offer dual front airbags and ABS as a standard feature on all their cars. We hope more manufacturers bring in these safety features as a mandate to make cars even safer in India. Nevertheless, the Indian Government's new safety norms will make manufacturers offer different safety features either as standard or an option. Though this is expected to be brought in place from 2018, the new crash tests norms will be implemented in the second half of next year.
