Volkswagen had recently gathered a lot of negative attention over one the biggest emission scandals in automotive history. The one in question, 1.6L EA189 diesel unit that currently serves a wide range of VW vehicles would be replaced by a new 1.5-litre unit. It is believed that the new engine would enter production sometime next year. Sources also believe that the company may initially offer 1.5-litre engine option whereas more options may be introduced later.
The diesel variant would likely be powered by 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder engine that could likely be a re-engineered version of the current 1.6-litre TDI. The petrol variant could be powered by a new 1.5L, 4-cylinder, turbocharged unit that may come as a replacement to the current generation 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine. More details about the engine variants could be known in the coming days.
