Volkswagen India is all set to foray into the exponentially growing sub-compact sedan segment with a new sedan that is yet in development stage. Speculations suggest that new sub-four meter sedan from Volkswagen could come with the same 1.2 litre gasoline and diesel powertrains that powers Polo hatchback.
The 1.2 litre petrol motor is capable of producing a maximum power and torque output of 75 PS and 110 NM respectively. Diesel motor on the other hand generates a top power of 75 PS and peak torque of 180 PS. Volkswagen’s new compact sedan is likely to get a contemporary design, as expected to be seen in the upgraded Polo due to be launched soon. The unnamed sub-four meter sedan will rival Maruti Swift Dzire, Hyundai Xcent and upcoming Tata Zest in its segment.
Right now there is no information on the time frame when the company plans on launching the sub-four meter sedan. However, it is being said that Volkswagen could bring new Beetle and Tiguan in domestic market as CBUs before launching sub-four meter sedan in India. Besides these, refreshed Polo and Vento will also be rolled out during the festive season. Vento will get a minor facelift that could act as a buffer before the company launches comprehensively tweaked version of the sedan in India next year.
At the 12th Delhi Auto Expo, Volkswagen exhibited a new compact SUV, dubbed Tiguan. Tiguan will be powered by a 1.0 litre TSI petrol engine good for 108 PS and 175 Nm, while the diesel variant will come equipped with the same motor as seen in Polo hatchback.
