The Volkswagen Tiguan has been launched in the global market and will soon be available in India as well. It debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2015 and was also shown at the 2016 Auto Expo last month.

The Tiguan boasts of an all new design, gets better equipment and a refined engine lineup. It is in its second generation and based on the MQB platform. Due to this platform, it has also become lighter than its predecessor. The crossover's design is influenced by the VW Cross Coupe GTE showcased at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show.

The interior of the Tiguan gets a premium design with new leather and other materials even if is similar to the previous model's layout. The Indian-model might come equipped with a five-inch non color infotainment display or an optional eight-inch infotainment touchscreen. It features a new three-zone automatic climate control system and the largest panoramic sunroof, which might make it in to the top-of-the-line variant.

For the Indian market, there is no confirmation about the engine options yet. However, we can expect a variety of options including the 1.4- and 2.0-litre TSI in the petrol guise, and the 1.6- and 2.0-litre TDI units for the diesel variants. On the transmission front, the seven-speed DSG unit will be offered.

The VW Tiguan’s introduction in the Indian market will mean VW's entry into the compact SUV segment in India. It might be priced in the Rs 28 lakh to Rs 38 lakh price segment and will compete with the Audi Q3 and BMW X1 when launched in India.
