Volkswagen has begun taking bookings for the new Passat in the Malaysian market. The new saloon is expected to cost between RM 160,000 and RM 199,000 (Rs 24.40 to 30.34 lakh) for the three variants called Trendline, Comfortline and Highline.

Volkswagen launches new Passat in Malaysia

Volkswagen’s new Passat is underpinned by the MQB modular architecture that helps it shed 90kg over the outgoing model, and the new iteration reveals a boot whose capacity has increased by 21 litres (586 litres). Under the hood of the new Passat is the 1.8-litre 180bhp direct-injection petrol motor with a seven-speed DSG, and the 2.0-litre 220bhp turbocharged petrol engine which uses a six-speed DSG gearbox.

One can expect features like dynamic chassis control (changes driving characteristics on the go), electronic differential lock, lane assist, and park assist in both parallel and perpendicular parking situations on the latest Passat. There’s also the sensor-equipped, keyless operating boot lid which detects the driver’s foot under the rear bumper and opens the boot lid automatically.
