Volkswagen has launched the Ameo compact sedan with prices starting Rs 5.14 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai). The sub-four metre sedan will currently be available only with the petrol engine option and the deliveries will start next month. The Ameo competes with the Maruti Dzire, Hyundai Xcent, Honda Amaze and others in the compact sedan segment.
In terms of pricing, Volkswagen has positioned the Ameo below the Polo hatchback and most of the competitors in its segment. It uses the same platform as the Polo and is also powered by the same 1.2-litre three-cylinder MPI petrol engine producing 74bhp and 110Nm of torque. The power is delivered to the front wheels using the five-speed manual transmission.
Volkswagen is offering majority of the features from the Vento in the top-spec Ameo. It gets cruise control, rain sensing wipers, rear AC vents, touch-screen music system with mirror link and static cornering headlamps. Also, ABS and front airbags are standard features from the base trim onwards.
