      Volkswagen India top level management reshuffle: John Chacko goes to Audi

      Volkswagen India, a domestic arm of the German multinational auto maker, has re-jigged its top-level management and has given John Chacko the command of its premium automotive marque- Audi in the country. Chacko, the previous President of Indian arm of Volkswagen will now take control of the company's booming subsidiary Audi, which is a leading name in the luxury automotive space of the domestic market, at present. Further, the German auto major has appointed Gerasimos Dorizas as its Chief Representative of Volkswagen Group, along with Mahesh Kodumudi as the new Managing Director (MD) and President of Volkswagen India Private Limited.

      Informing about the top management reshuffle in the country, in a statement Volkswagen India said, “Gerasimos Dorizas (52), Managing Director of Volkswagen Group Sales India Pvt Ltd, has been appointed Chief Representative of the Volkswagen Group in India with effect from March 1.” The German auto maker added, “John Chacko (60), previously President, Managing Director and Group Chief Representative of Volkswagen India, is transferring to a responsible position with Audi AG with effect from April 1.” Further, the statement also said, “Effective March 1, Mahesh Kodumudi (47) has been appointed President and Managing Director of Volkswagen India Private Limited.”

      John Chacko, ex-President and MD of Volkswagen India, was head of the German auto maker's Indian division for almost three years since 2010. Under Chacko's reign, the Volkswagen Group climbed several highs, such as unified sales of 1,14,045 units during the 2012 calendar year, from its five auto labels including Volkswagen, Audi, Lamborghini, Skoda and Porsche. Further, the group saw combined sales of 1,11,637 units in 2011. Chacko has been with the Volkswagen Group since 1979 and has held several top level management responsibilities at Volkswagen, Seat and Audi before assuming the role of the Technical Project Manager for India in Wolfsburg in 2006. Later after two years, Chacko was appointed as the Technical MD of Volkswagen India Private Limited.

      Mahesh Kodumudi had joined the India arm of German auto maker as its Executive Director in the year 2008 and assumed responsibility of the company's Pune-based production unit. From March 1, 2013, Kodumudi will start office as the new President and MD of Volkswagen India Private Limited. Further, Gerasimos Dorizas has been with Volkswagen Group Sales India, since 2012 when he was appointed as its Managing Director. He has also managed the company's Japanese unit when he joined the German firm as Executive Vice President (VP), Sales and Marketing, Volkswagen Group Japan in 2007. Within one year in 2008, Dorizas was promoted as the President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), before assuming the role of MD of Volkswagen Group Sales India in 2012.
