Volkswagen has started recalling and fixing cars affected in the mega diesel emissions scandal that went public last year. The brand, however, has fixed only 50,000 vehicles out of the total 8.5 million affected in Europe up until now.

Volkswagen dealers reportedly have fixed around 50,000 diesel vehicles across Europe since the start of this year. The brand is hoping to fix most of the affected cars within 2016; however, there would still be cars that would not be fixed until 2017.
Now although the recall operations have begun in Europe, VW customers in the US have still not been compensated yet as the outcome of the initial agreement between VW and the US government will be announced by the end of next month.
In what can only be described as an unfortunate aftermath, Volkswagen sales in the US have dropped by 5.7 percent year-over-year while in Canada things were even worse with a decline of 10.6 percent due to the emissions scandal.
