Volkswagen has been entangled in controversies ever since the brand was caught cheating in emission tests. This time around, surprising the automotive world, Volkswagen has dethroned Toyota to emerge as the world’s top carmaker in the first half of 2016. However, the Japanese automaker has attributed its drop in sales due to many issues recently, including – explosion at their steel supplier’s facility in February, earthquake in April and array of production stoppages.

During this phase, the German automaker Volkswagendelivered 5.116 million vehicles, thereby registering a 1.5 per cent growth. Moreover, the company believes that they expect to see slightly higher sales over last year’s 9.93 million deliveries, as demand in China and Western Europe outweighs decline in sales in America and Russia.

While Toyota slips to the second position in world sales, GM stands on third number with 1.2 per cent drop in sales with a six-month sale of 4.76 million vehicle sales. TMC, which currently manufactures vehicles under the purview ofLexus, Toyota, Daihatsu, Ranz and Scion, stated that its global sales dropped by 0.6 per cent in January - June, 2016 to about 4.992 million vehicles worldwide, which is down from 5.021 million noted in the same period last year.
