Volkswagen, the German automaker, is working on a small SUV for developing nations including India and Brazil. The company is yet to announce the vehicle, while the platform on which the new SUV will be based upon is also a mystery. If media reports are to be believed, the company is working on an all-new SUV on the versatile MQB platform; however, few reports suggest that the new model will be based on the PQ25 platform. The German automaker has confirmed that a Polo-based compact SUV in the works.

Dr Heinz-Jakob Neuser’, board member at VW technical development, has said that the SUV will be based on next Polo and will be aimed at markets of China, South America and Europe. The next generation Polo will be based on the MQB platform, which is expected to be launched in 2016. It is believed that the new compact SUV will go on sale by 2016-17.

For the Indian market, VW is working on an all-new compact SUV which will be based on the PQ25 platform. Currently, the company is selling Polo and Vento sedan on the same platform, and every possibility is that the maker could opt for the same platform to build the India-spec compact SUV. At the 2014 Delhi Motor Show, VW showcased the Taigun compact SUV concept. The concept is based on the VW UP! platform; however, the compact SUV is unlikely to see production light in India. If reports are to be believed, the Polo based SUV will share its styling cues with the T-ROC concept.
