Sub-four meter sedans have been immensely popular in the country. Going by the trend, Volkswagen has been spotted testing its very own compact sedan likely to be named Ameo on Indian roads. Post launch, it could likely emerge as a strong competitor against the Maruti Swift Dzire, Honda Amaze and Hyundai Xcent. The new model is likely to be showcased at the upcoming 2016 Auto Expo event in Delhi.

The petrol version of Volkswagen Ameo is likely to be powered by 1.2-liter three-cylinder MPi engine, while the diesel is likely to get a 1.5-liter four-cylinder TDI engine. Apart from 5-speed manual transmission, the company may also offer 7-speed DSG. Based on what could be seen, the vehicle seems to have been offered with fixed rear headrests, Polo styled L-shaped brake lights and a shorter boot space as compared to the Vento. The upcoming vehicle could be offered with standard airbags as seen in the current generation models.
