Volkswagen’s 1.4 litre TSI twincharger engine has been felicitated with the 'International Engine of the Year Award' for the ninth time in a row in the 1.0 to 1.4 litre cubic capacity category. The award was presented on June 28th, 2014 in Stuttgart to Carsten Helbing, Head of Application EA888 and Alternative Fuels in the Volkswagen Petrol Engine Development Division. The assessment is done through a special point system that includes various factors like engine noise, power output and journalists’ personal driving experience.
The TSI engines possess small cubic capacity, yet they are capable of producing high power output equivalent to engines with significantly larger cubic capacity. TSI engine is currently offered in various models of Volkswagen possessing varied cubic capacities and outputting different states of power. The engine currently is equipped in a number of models from Volkswagen stable including Beetle, Jetta, Eos, Golf Cabriolet, Touran, Tiguan, Passat and Sharan.
A 1.0 litre version of the motor has been added to the range of TSI engines, this engine capable of delivering a maximum power of 90 PS will be inducted by the year end in the new Polo TSI BlueMotion.
