      Vodafone India plans its maiden street racing event, Lewis Hamilton to take Mumbai on a ride

      Vodafone India, with an unprecedented move in its history, is all set to offer the motor-sports enthusiasts a thrilling experience of street racing. The event scheduled for September 16, 2012 (evening) will provide a golden chance to the individuals to witness the 2008 formula one champion, Lewis Hamilton, racing on the streets of Mumbai. The event, which will take place just a week prior to the Singapore Grand Prix 2012 night race, will be held at the awe-inspiring landscape of Marine Drive, south Mumbai.

      The Marine Drive would be brightly lit for this event and will be simulated to look like a Formula 1 track with pit garage and stands. Lewis would flaunt driving skills in his Vodafone McLaren Mercedes MP4-27 car, entertaining the crowd there. The breath-taking landscape of the Marine Drive along with the high speeding Vodafone McLaren Mercedes will definitely give the spectators a mesmerising experience. Apart from the privilege of riding with Lewis Hamilton, some of the lucky Vodafone customers will get a chance of visiting the pit garage to have a look at the sophisticated technology being used by the Vodafone powered team.

      The company has ties with Vodafone McLaren Mercedes team since 2007 and is serving as its 'Title sponsor' and 'Official Total Communications Partner'. Marten Pieters, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Vodafone India, quoted, “Vodafone shares an exclusive relationship with McLaren Mercedes which gives us access to the team, the drivers and other assets which enables us to provide our customers unique content and enjoy great experiential events and promotions. Our activities in India are an extension of this association. I am very excited that we can bring world known megastars like Lewis Hamilton to India. The street race experience in Mumbai is an exclusive event that happens so far only in Monaco and Singapore. We are very happy to bring our customers to get closer to this action.”

      Lewis Hamilton who has earlier been to India and has a large number of fans in the country is also excited regarding the event and said, “I always love coming to India and I am really excited to be coming to the city of Mumbai this time. I would like to thank Vodafone for their continued support to the team. I am simply overwhelmed by the incredible excitement shown by the people of this country. I had a wonderful experience in Bangalore last year and this year I am hoping that the excitement will be faster, smarter and better in Mumbai.”

      Fever about this event has already caught up on twitter with #speedupmumbai, requesting individuals to tweet their views and opinions on how the cosmopolitan city of Mumbai can be speeded up. The excitement of people can be figured out from the fact that in a short time, more than 500 individuals expressed their opinions on how the momentum of city could be paced up.

      With this event, the speeding aficionados will get an opportunity to enjoy the full thrill of a Formula 1 race with helmet simulators and car simulators. Besides, they will get a chance to get very close to the replica of the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes car.

      In the entire month of August, the service provider has been engaged in showcasing the replica of Vodafone McLaren car to the motor-racing fans and customers at malls and business parks. The company's initiative was highly admired and appreciated by the die hard fans that got a chance to click pictures with a look alike of the Formula 1 car.

      Vodafone, organiser of the event, received entries of over 270,000 participants for the contest. The name of lucky winner for the coveted post would be announced a few days before the Indian Grand Prix, which will kick off from October 26, 2012.
