A tremendous hype has been build much ahead of the unveiling date ascertained for the future generation Honda City. It is expected to wrest back its position in the mid-size sedan segment from Hyundai Verna, which has had a great run ever since its fluidic design made inroads in India. Talking about the engine specifications of both the cars, Hyundai Verna is offered with four different engine configurations. The petrol versions are powered by an option of 1.4-litre VTVT and 1.6-litre VTVT powertrains. Both of these are available in manual and automatic transmission options having 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic gearbox. Likewise, the petrol variants, the diesel version also feature two engine options that are 1.4-litre and 1.6-litre CRDi, available in manual and automatic variants. On the other hand, Honda is also expected to roll out in diesel and petrol engines as the petrol version would retain the same 1.5-litre i-VTEC engine as given in the incumbent model. However, in the diesel version, it is likely that the 1.5-litre i-DTEC unit of Amaze might be carried over, but in a state of differently tuned outputs.

In terms of exteriors, Hyundai Verna is largely based on the platform of Fluidic Design Scripture, which is adopted by the South Korean maker on almost each and every model. While talking about the appearance of 2014 Honda City, the company has not released any image of the car but it is expected that the model will bear numerous changes in its design. What seems certain is the addition of projector headlamps that will give a premium look to the mid-size sedan of Honda. While comparing both the cars in terms of features and equipment, it would be hard to choose a front runner between the two. As Hyundai has build a reputation of giving the best-in-class features in its cars, Verna also carries the tradition forward.

It has got almost all of the premium functionalities that one can come across in a mid-size sedan. Honda City is not far on the list as it is majorly known for its interiors. It is not an unknown fact that Honda City poses a major threat for the best selling Hyundai Verna but what will be exciting to see is the outcome of the competition. Industry experts are early waiting for Honda City to arrive in diesel version as it is presumed to be the fiercest rival of Hyundai Verna.
