Volkswagen’s one-make championship, the Vento Cup, will be a part of the FMSCI Indian National Racing Championship owing to their tie up with the Madras Motor Sports Club (MMSC) for the 2016 season. The one-make championship that began with the 1.6-litre Polo hatchbacks has now graduated to the 1.4-litre TSi powered sedan, the Vento.
Volkswagen has also tied up with tyre manufacturer MRF for the 2016 season. The Vento Cup will now have ten races over three different circuits with the MMSC Chennai track added to the Kari Motor Speedway in Coimbatore and the Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida. The Vento Cup will be back at the Chennai facility after a three year hiatus.
The Vento Cup is aimed at being the breeding ground for budding motorsport talent in the country. The drivers’ selection will now go through a new programme of go-karting. The programme has commenced today across seven cities. The participants who clock the best times for the venue will be sent to Pune for the final selection. 20 drivers will be seen battling it out in the 2016 season for the Junior and the Professional championships.
