With just days remaining for its official launch, leaked reports reveal that the upcoming Volkswagen Tiguan will be offered in two trims - Comfortline and Highline. Production for the upcoming vehicle began at the automaker’s Aurangabad facility in Maharashtra and has also been spotted recently without any camouflage. Dealers have reportedly started accepting booking for the five-seat vehicle at a token amount of Rs 1 lakh.

As revealed in the leaked brochure, the base variant gets 17-inch alloys instead of the 18-inch wheels offered in the Highline variant. Additionally, it also misses out on illuminated front scuff plates, chrome finish on the bumpers and a panoramic sunroof. As for the interior and equipment, both trims get standard features such as three-zone automatic air-conditioning with rear controls, electrically adjustable front seats with driver memory function, automatic headlamp and cruise control. Features like ambient lighting and keyless entry with a push-button start is specific to top-spec Highline variant.

Speaking about the safety element, the vehicle gets ABS with EBD, dual front, front side and curtain airbags, rain sensors, electronic stability control, tyre pressure monitoring system and front and rear park distance control, as standard. The top-spec Highline variant gets two additional features like self-sealing tyres and a reverse parking camera. Under the hood, the upcoming Tiguan is expected to get the 2.0-litre TDI engine, from the recently launched A4 35TDI that generates 147bhp of power and 340Nm of torque. For those who prefer petrol engines, there might also be a 2.0-litre or a 1.4-litre on offer. Both the engines will come mated to seven-speed DSG. Reports indicate that the second generation model will not just be lighter by 50kgs, but will also be bigger than its predecessor.

The pricing for the new Volkswagen Tiguan is not known right now, but we believe it might be priced around Rs 25 lakh (Ex-showroom). Post launch, it will compete against the likes of Honda CR-V and the upcoming Skoda Kodiaq. Loaded with an interesting set of features, the Tiguan is expected to emerge as a popular pick in its segment. In the true sense, the Tiguan has no real competition except for the Kodiaq. India being a price sensitive market, a good price will be the deciding factor for the brand’s success in the country.
