What you see in the pictures is the next generation Audi A8 being tested in Europe, and this comes after we reported spotting a heavily camouflaged prototype being tested in cold weather conditions last month.
This time around, you can clearly see that the test mule only has some black tape covering the grille, headlamps, bumpers and tail lights, which indicates that the model is more-or-less in the final design stages. Audi has already disclosed that the new A8 will be showcased at the brand’s Summit in Barcelona on July 11th, and that it’s underpinned by the MLB Evo platform which borrows from the component bin of the Q7 and Bentley’s Bentayga.
Audi’s new A8 body will weigh 50kg more than the current car even though it will use aluminium, strengthened steel, magnesium, and carbon-fibre reinforced plastic in the body shell. Furthermore, sources suggest that the new car will use a series of V6, V8 and W12 petrol engines along with the option of V6 and V8 diesel motors. There’s even talk of a plug-in hybrid powertrain that could join the range later on.
It is believed that after Audi showcases the new A8 in July, it could roll into showrooms in the last quarter of 2017. Stay tuned.
