TVS Motors, the leading two-wheeler maker in the Indian market, is planning to give a major boost to its India operations in the coming months. According to a senior official of the company, the firm is looking forward to expand its manufacturing operations at Uluberia in Howrah, over the period of next two to three years.

While speaking to the reporters at the occasion of the concluding ceremony of Bengal Leads 2012 in Kolkata on Sunday, TVS chairman Venu Srinivasan, "We are going to increase production of motorcycles at the Uluberia plant from 1600 units per year to 2.4 lakh units per year over a period of three years."

The company is planning to invest a sum of Rs 400 crore for this capacity expansion, which will be invested in phases over the period of next three years.

The company had tied-up with Mahabharat Motors, a part of Universal Success, to commence the manufacturing operations of its India portfolio two-wheelers at the 44 acres of land. The TVS-Mahabharat Motors joint venture plans to set up an auto ancillary unit at the remaining 56 acres of the land.

A final decision in this regard is yet to be taken by the company, as the talks between TVS and its vendors are still on.
