Endeavouring to either position India as its major production hub for exports or to establish its brand in the high volume premium sports motorcycle segment in the country, the U.K based eminent motorcycle maker, Triumph has inked a MoU with Karnataka government for set up of a manufacturing plant in the state.

According to sources, the company has been allotted 30 to 40 acres land at Narsapura, a place 52 km distant the state’s capital city, Bangalore. The location has been aptly shortlisted for such plant as it can strategically utilise the nearby port, which has lately become a pertinent location for various auto and auto part manufacturing companies.

Full-fledged manufacturing units instead of continuing assembly of CKD (completely knocked down) kits implies that the company can embark upon new pricing policies for the Indian market backed up incorporation of high quality materials.

The new manufacturing plant is anticipated to be operative from 2015 with an installed capacity of 2,50,000 motorcycles annually and the initial investment to be infused by Triumph is Rs. 400 crore. At present, the Karnataka state government is deliberating on to finalise the tax benefits along with other operational benefits for the company’s big budget foray into the state.

As disclosed at the Auto Expo held earlier this year, Triumph will initially route Bonneville, the Street Triple 675, the Daytona 675 and the Speed Triple as CKD models while Tiger 800XC, the Storm and the Rocket III will be rolled out as CBU (completely built unit) models.
