Toyota has revealed that it will not be launching any new car in India this year. The company is currently awaiting clarity on the implementation of GST and BS VI emission norms before making a move in the Indian market.
After the announcement banning diesel-powered cars in Delhi, Toyota had launched the petrol variants of the Innova Crysta and the Fortuner. However, these variants account for less than five per cent of overall sales, making them not worth the investment. Toyota doesn’t want to make any hasty moves unless there is clarity on the implementation of GST and BS VI emission norms. The company is now laying groundwork for the move to BS VI standards, and launching any new car in India this year is out of question.
One of the new Toyota products expected to be launched in India this year was the Vios. While it has been spotted testing in India from time to time, the company had, insofar, refused to comment on its expected launch date. This time though, the company denied all rumours about its launch in India in this year. Nevertheless, Toyota added that it will be unveiling new products at the 2018 Auto Expo, and we expect the Vios to be one of those products.
