Toyota Motors, the Japan based leading car maker, is gearing-up to boost its market share in the Indian market along with increasing its workforce by as many as 2000 people. In coming months, the company will be launching new cars in the volume driven small car segment, fighting for space with the leading car makers in the Indian market including Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors and Hyundai.

In a recent statement, Toyota Kirloskar Motor managing director, Hiroshi Nakagawa, said, "We will require a strong manpower as we introduce new products in the volume segment for customers with different aspirations. While we increased the number of expatriates in senior positions in the last two years to 75, now we intend to reduce it. They were part of the initial hand-holding." He added, "Indian market is much bigger for us now, than in the past."

In last two years, the company has added 2000 people in its workforce, taking total manpower in India to 5,000. At present, the Indian automobile industry employs 13 million people and the figure is projected to reach 25 million by 2016. Toyota aims to take its market shares in the emerging markets to 50 percent over the period of next 2-3 year, as against current share of about 40 percent.
