Toyota has finally decided to roll out its model Prius in India. It has been studying the feasibility for the model in the country. The Japanese auto major has set its plans to launch its mass marketed hybrid car early next year in India. It had already showcased its model at the International Engineering Trade Fair in New Delhi earlier this year.

The car is initially expected to be imported as Completely Built Unit or CBUs as the Indian arm for Toyota lacks necessary infrastructure to manufacture it locally. It is expected to fall in the price band of Rs. 18 to 22 lakhs. Hybrid cars are extremely fuel efficient and eco-friendly. They use both petrol and electric motor to give the most economic run on the roads.
Toyota is also planning to launch is premium SUV brand, Lexus in India. This may push Prius launch a little down further. Toyota is shall also be introducing new generation Corolla priced competitively on the higher side to Honda Civic.
