Toyota Kirloskar Motor, the fifth largest car maker in the country, has revealed that plans are being devised to step up production level of its bestselling Etios range to the tune of 80 percent by the year 2013 resulting from the milestone attained with the sale of 1 lakh units of the Etios sedan and the Etios Liva hatchback collectively, since its inception in the year 2010.

Currently, the production capacity of the Etios series stands at 1,20,000 units, which is scheduled to surge to 2,10,000 units by the year 2013 owing to the impressive response received despite of the adverse conditions hindering production operations in India.

On the milestone achieved by the company, Mr. Hiroshi Nakagawa, Managing Director, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, was quoted as saying, "This is an important milestone. We thank the one lakh customers who have trusted the brand and also appreciated it. Despite unforeseen and unfortunate events like tsunami in Japan and the floods in Thailand, we have been able to achieve the one lakh mark."

In a bid to offset the dependence on outsourced components for the Etios range, the automaker is targeting to capitalise on the localised components with the production of around 1 lakh engines per year from the third quarter of this year and around 2.4 lakh transmissions per year commencing from early 2013.

Toyota is also designing plans to strengthen the dealer distribution network for Etios brand popularity, which is scheduled to reach up to 220 showrooms by the year 2013 with sales outlets even in the semi urban regions in India.
