By 2017, almost all Toyota and Lexus cars will get automatic braking as a standard feature. The company recently revealed their plan of introducing this safety feature in a bid to reduce road accidents.
25 out of the 30 models from Toyota and Lexus will get this feature by 2017. Last week, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety announced that 20 manufacturers worldwide have agreed to make automatic braking as a standard feature on all cars by 2022.
The Japanese carmaker will use radars, laser beams and cameras to support this automatic braking system. According to reports, automatic braking has helped cut down the probabilities of rear-end crashes by 40 per cent and insurance injury claims by 35 per cent. It's good news that Toyota plans to make their cars even safer five years before the industry agreed timeline. We can also expect some of the cars from the Indian portfolio to get this safety feature and help reduce collisions.
