Toyota has recently launched the entry level sedan Toyota Etios, which is now set to be followed by a hatchback in a few months more. Toyota is now mulling introducing a new MPV for Indian customers that is expected to be built on the Etios platform.
“There is a room for another model between Etios and Innova. We are seriously considering it and a study is going on for this,” Toyota Motor Asia Pacific Senior Vice President (Area Operations Division) Vonce S Socco told. “If anything like that (launching the model) happens, it will be in 2012 or after that,” Socco said.
Toyota had also expressed similar sentiments of launching a new MPV below Toyota Innova in the Indian market during Delhi Auto Expo 2010. When asked what kind of vehicles will it be, he said, “Nothing has been finalised yet, but our inclination is towards a multi-purpose vehicle.”
There have been reports earlier as well about a new MPV Toyota Avanza coming to the Indian market. However, for now Indian customers will have to wait for any confirmed news from Toyota.
