Toyota Innova Touring Sport explained in detail

Toyota has launched a butch version of their popular MPV, the Innova Crysta called the Innova Touring Sport. . In spite of the Crysta’s SUV-ish styling, it is still considered as an MPV and this being the age of SUVs, Toyota decided to add more brawn to the Crysta. The Innova has been the start in Toyota’s line-up in India contributing to a major chunk of sales numbers for the past decade.

The Touring Sport is based on the high-spec VX and ZX trims of the Innova Crysta and will be available with both the petrol and diesel engine options. The 2.7-litre four cylinder petrol engine develops 164bhp of power at 5200rpm and 245Nm of torque at 4000rpm. The engine is mated to a five speed manual gearbox and offered in the VX trim at Rs 17.79 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi, while it is mated to the six speed automatic gearbox for the ZX trim with a price tag of Rs 20.84 lakhs. The diesel engine develops 148bhp of power at 3400rpm and 343Nm of torque from 1400rpm. Just like the petrol trims, the manual is based on the VX trim while the automatic is based on the fully loaded ZX trim with price tags of Rs 18.91 lakhs and Rs 22.15 lakhs respectively.

For the extra money that you would pay for an equivalent Innova Crysta, you get smoked headlamps along with a chrome lined bumper lip. The grille also gets contrast black and chrome treatment while the alloys get a matte black finish to complement the black peripheral cladding the Touring Sport gets over the Innova Crysta. The chrome highlights can also be seen under the running boards as well as below the rear bumper.

On the inside, the Touring Sport gets an all-black leather upholstery with red contrast stitch. The dashboard has been carried over from the Innova and gets red-wood accents to match the upholstery. The instrument cluster is also backlit in red whereas the rear door trims get dark wooden highlights. The Touring Sport gets seven airbags standard along with vehicle stability control and hill-start assist along with ABS and EBD. It gets three-point seatbelts for all occupants along with ISOFIX child-seat mounts to ensure maximum safety of all occupants.

In terms of competition, the only thing that comes close to the proposition the Innova Touring Sport is the Tata Hexa Tuff. The Tuff trimmings kit on the Tata Hexa is an optional package which costs you Rs 80,000 over the standard Hexa. The top-spec diesel Innova Touring Sport manual is priced almost a lakh rupees more than the fully-loaded Hexa Tuff manual, but loses out on the four-wheel drive made available by Tata. You also have the Mahindra XUV500, the top-spec diesel automatic all-wheel drive trim of which comes in at Rs 18.86 lakh ex-showroom Delhi.

If we go beyond the bodystyle, you have the D-segment sedans in fray. You have the Hyundai Elantra, the Skoda Octavia, the Toyota Corolla Altis and the Chevrolet Cruze as well. At the price of the top-spec Touring Sport, you can also opt for the premium Hyundai Tucson SUV with manual transmission.
