Toyota India has reported sales of 12,339 cars in May. In the same month last year, the company sold 13,604 units.
The decrease in sales is a result of less demand for the Innova MPV. The Innova Touring Sport was launched to help the company garner additional sales. But it looks like, the Japanese manufacturer didn't get the expected numbers overall. The Fortuner, the highest selling vehicle in its class, continues to enjoy a good demand from the market.
Toyota India is expecting a drop in sales in June as well, due to the GST policy. Several Indian buyers are planning to put off their purchase to 1 July to avail the GST benefits. There has been a downward tax revision for the big cars and SUVs which will make the Toyota cars much cheaper. We can expect Toyota to register positive growth from July onwards.
