Over the years, Geneva Motor Show has been offering a right platform for global automakers to showcase their upcoming products and technological developments. Here is a list of top 10 concepts that has caught our attention at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show.
Porsche Cross Turismo
Porsche thrilled the audience at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show by taking the wraps off the Mission E Cross Turismo. The Cross Turismo is essentially a station wagon derivative of the Mission E which was last showcased as a concept in 2015. The concept version gets an 800-volt electric lithium-ion battery pack with a range of 400 kilometres. It is believed that the electric CUV can do a 0-100 acceleration in less than 3.5 seconds and reach a speed of 200kmph in under 12 seconds.
German premium car manufacturer has now showcased its entire 8 Series line-up with the debut of the M8 Gran Coupe Concept at Geneva. The 8 Series Gran Coupe has completed the nomenclature shift from the earlier 6 Series to the 8 Series in the BMW scheme of things. The new sloping roofline adds more character to the Gran Coupe. The vehicle gets an aggressive fascia and prominent shoulder lines. The Hofmeister’s kink harks back to the BMW roots and the fender-slit on the sides and the penta-bloc alloy wheels look raucous.
Ssangyong e-SIV
The Ssangyong e-SIV is basically C-segment crossover design study from the Korean car manufacturer that peaks about company’s future plans for mobility, new technologies and product development. The e-SIV here stands for the Electronic Smart Interface Vehicle, which is powered by a 140kW (185bhp) motor with a fast charging feature and can clock a stop speed of 150kmph. The company claims that the EV is capable of charging up to 80 per cent in just about 50 minutes and has an electric range of up to 450kms.
Icona Nucleus Concept
The Nucleus Concept designed by Italian firm Icona has been termed as ‘the ultimate self-driving living room.’ The six-seat concept measures 5.25-metres in length and is 2.12 meters wide. The vehicle sits on large 26-inch wheels and stands tall at 1.75 meters. Imaginary concept for now, it will take a while before it undergoes production.
Hyundai Le Fil Rouge
Hyundai takes the fluidic design philosophy to a whole new level with the Le Fil Rouge concept. The two-door four-seat coupe gets a cascading grille, a GT silhouette and 21-inch wheels completes its sporty appeal. The company terms the new design philosophy ‘Sensuous Sportiness’.
Audi E-Tron
Audi has previewed the E-Tron concept at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show. The five-seat electric SUV had been undergoing extreme condition testing across the world. The vehicle is powered by a 15kW battery with fast charging feature and believed to offer a 500kms range.
Aston Martin Lagonda Vision Concept
Premium car manufacturer Aston Martin has kept the Lagonda name alive with the new vision concept. Expected to undergo production by 2021, the Lagonda Vision will get radical design themes both inside and out. The vehicle rides on large multi-spoke wheels which further enhances its sporty quotient. The production version will have a driving range of 400kms and will be powered by powerful solid state electric batteries.
Toyota GR Supra
The legendry Supra comes back as an entirely new concept at the Geneva Motor Show. Called the GR Supra, under the Gazoo Racing ‘GR’ brand, it now gets more edgy and sharper that its predecessors. As seen in images, it gets gill-scoops on the hood, massive rear wing, rear splitter and a wide-body stance for better handling and performance. It is expected to be powered by a 3.0-litre straight-six just like the original Supra, pumping more than 300bhp of power.
Volkswagen I.D. Vizzion Concept
Volkswagen’s car of the future, the I.D. Vizzion Concept is coming no sooner than by 2030. At the time of launch, it will be a Level five vehicle where the need for human intervention will be minimal. Moreover, the vehicle does not get a steering system and everything can be controlled via gesture control and hologram technology which will be provided by Microsoft. The concept vehicle gets 111kWh lithium-ion battery pack that gives it a range of 664km. There are two separate electric motors that produce the equivalent of 302bhp and also give the car AWD or in VW’s parlance- 4Motion.
Skoda Vision X-concept
Skoda’s urban SUV, the Vision X Concept will compete against the likes of Hyundai Creta, Nissan Qashaqi and the Renault Duster. At the time of launch the vehicle will be positioned below the Karoq SUV. Skoda has decided to power it through a hybrid system that combines CNG with electric motors. There is a 1.5-litre petrol/CNG compatible four-cylinder engine producing 128bhp/200Nm and driving the front wheels. At the rear is an electric motor powered by a 48kWh battery that, when needed and activated, provides AWD.
