South Korean automaker, Hyundai will finally stop the production of the Santro hatchback in India soon. The Santro played an important role in the establishment of Hyundai as a successful carmaker in the country. General Motors India is also preparing to say final good bye to its not-so successful Chevrolet Spark from the domestic market. Like Santro, the Spark, initially, played an important role for GM to gain some ground in the growing Indian market.

The Santro was the game changer for the South Korean maker in the country. The vehicle received huge response from buyers across the nation, and it directly challenges Maruti’s dominance in the entry level hatchback segment. The company managed to sold over 1.36 million Santro’s in India, while 5,35,000 units were exported to other nations.

Hyundai launched several new products in around same pricing including i10 and Grand i10; however, the company still manages to sell over 2,900 units every month. This shows the popularity of the car, and the faith of Indian buyers on this aging product. Talking about Chevrolet Spark, the small car gained good momentum on initial run; however, it failed to maintain the same sales figure. The company managed to sell 1.65 lakh units of the Spark in past 7 years. While GM has no plans of introducing Spark replacement anytime soon, Hyundai is focusing more on brand building of Grand i10 and Xcent.
