The BMW i8 supercar was first showcased at the Delhi Auto Expo 2014, where it was said the company plans to launch the car in the Indian market soon. There was quite some anticipation about the time of launch of this car. Now, it has been reported by some independent sources that the car is set to roll out in the Indian market sometime during the next month of February. This comes at a time almost a year after its official unveiling in India. There is a huge expectation from this car to perform well in the country.
The BMW i8 comes with an engine of 1.5-litre, three pot turbocharged petrol engine, which is capable of churning out 231 PS of power and 320 Nm torque. On the other hand, the electric mill generates 131 PS and 250 Nm, which takes the total power to 362 PS and the twisting force to 570 Nm. As per the reports released from BMW, the car is able to hit the 100 kilometres per hour benchmark in a whopping 4.4 seconds. However, the top speed has been limited electronically to 250 kilometres per hour. When it runs on battery, it achieves a top speed of 120 kilometres per hour, having a maximum range of 35 kilometres. BMW i8 has employed heavy utilisation of carbon fibre technology for the manufacture of this car, which has made its gross weight only 1490 kilograms.
