Tesla has introduced the version 8.0 software update which is a significant over-the-air overhaul of the Tesla touchscreen, and now uses a modern user interface along with display improvements for Maps and Autopilot.

Teslas version 8 update available for US owners

The brand added that this is the most noteworthy update after the launch of the Model S, and can be downloaded by Tesla car owners through an over-the-air update. This brings about upgrades to the Autopilot semi-autonomous system and makes it work more efficiently with the front radar sensors that now scan the road ahead to build a 3D image. This, as Tesla said, helps the on-board electronics judge and handle highway intersections. Safety also sees an improvement through the Autosteer which is now programmed to shut off if the driver pays no heed to in-vehicle warnings.
Tesla’s version 8.0 update also allows the control bar on the infotainment system to fade away while using maps, so that the image can use the entire screen. Additionally, the interface allows the screen for a single downward swipe to begin instant map routing for home or work, depending on your location. With the version 8.0 update, voice recognition is more intuitive and the system responds better to voice commands. A ‘Cabin Overheat Protection’ feature also makes it to the list of features, and automatically keeps the cabin from overheating by turning the air conditioner on to cool the interiors.
Tesla revealed that the new update will only go out to those Teslas which have the sensors, and added that the version 8.0 is not ready for their customers abroad since the brand needs to incorporate region specific changes to the update.
