Tata Motors that launched the Zest compact sedan is now gearing up to launch of Bolt hatchback. The Zest compact sedan is also the country’s first diesel car to feature an AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) gearbox. The AMT equipped model has received an overwhelming response from buyers, and, currently, the waiting period for the model is around 6-8 months. Keeping high demand for AMT equipped cars in mind, the homegrown automaker is now planning to launch AMT-equipped petrol variant of the compact sedan in the country.

The petrol AMT model of the Tata Zest has been spotted a couple of times on Indian roads, indicating a near launch. If media reports are to be believed, the company will launch the AMT petrol variant of the sedan in early 2015; however, the company hasn't officially said anything on the same.

Under the bonnet of Tata Zest petrol AMT will be the same Revotron, 1.2-litre turbocharged unit. This engine is capable of producing a top power output of 84bhp and a peak torque of 143Nm.

Tata Motors will also launch a small hatchback to rival Maruti Celerio, Chevrolet Beat and Datsun Go. Codenamed Kite, the hatchback will be positioned between the Nano and upcoming Bolt hatchback. Adding to it, the company would also launch the Nano AMT and a more powerful Safari Storme facelift next year.
