Riding on fresh launches, Tata Motors seems to be getting back on track gradually. The recently launched Zest compact sedan has received an excellent response from car buyers. Interestingly, the sub-4 metre sedan managed to outsell Honda Amaze in October, 2014 sales. With this, Honda Cars India has started facing tough fight from rivals including Hyundai Xcent, Zest and top-selling Maruti Swift Dzire.

Honda sold 3,482 units of the Amaze compact sedan last month, while Tata Motors managed to sell around 3,524 units in the same month. The difference is very marginal, but it will surely boost up the confidence of homegrown automaker. After receiving positive response for the Zest compact sedan, Tata Motors is now concentrating on upcoming products including Bolt and Nexon based compact SUV. Despite introduction of new cars in the compact sedan segment, the Maruti Swift Dzire's sales remain unaffected. It is still the country’s top-selling product with 17,950 units sold last month. On the other hand, the Hyundai Xcent secured second positioned with 4,629 units sold in October.

The Tata Zest compact sedan is offered in both petrol and diesel fuel options. Its gasoline model is propelled by the new 1.2-litre turbocharged ‘Revotron’ unit that produces 90bhp and 140Nm of torque. The oil burner is the same Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre MJD motor that is good for 89bhp and 200Nm of top torque. The Zest compact sedan is also the country’s first diesel car to feature AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) gearbox.
